Terms and conditions

Before you commit yourself to making a payment, please read the terms and
conditions.

1) General conduct

I have signed up to the code of conduct of the Driving Instructors Association, the largest independent driver training association in the world. I will be courteous, polite, tidy and punctual. I will behave in a professional and ethical manner at all times. My car will be well maintained, clean and tidy, fitted with dual controls, and fully insured for driving tuition and tests.

2) Qualifications

I am a fully-qualified ‘ approved driving instructor’ .

3) Driving licence and eyesight

You must hold a current, valid driving licence (provisional or full), which I will check before you start driving. I will check your eyesight, by asking you to read a car number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres (about 5 car lengths), with glasses if normally worn.

4) Payments

The remainder of your course fees should be paid at least four weeks before the start of the course, by cheque, bank transfer or cash. If you do wish to pay by credit or debit card this will incur an additional fee of 5%. I will enter each payment and each lesson on your Student Record Form so that I have an up to date record of payments received and lessons taken.

5) Lesson postponement

If you do not attend for a pre-arranged lesson you may lose your lesson fee. This decision is at my total discretion.

6) Punctuality

In your own interests, you are advised to be punctual for your appointments. I will usually wait 15 minutes in the event of a ‘ no-show’ . Please be aware that, on rare occasions, I could be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

7) Learner comfort and safety

In the interests of comfort and safety, you are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing which does not restrict movement. Also, you must advise me before you start driving if taking any medication or have any medical condition which could affect your driving.

8) Your driving course

  • For you to take your practical driving test at the end of your course of lessons, we need to plan ahead. All test centres have a waiting time (of up to three months) for the practical test. Also, the practical test cannot be booked until you have passed your theory test.
  • All students learn at different rates and have different strengths and weaknesses. It is possible that you will need extra lessons above those provided by the course. As the course progresses, we will discuss and monitor your progress. I will do everything I can to get you to test standard in time for your test, and it will also require a big commitment from you. In the unlikely event that I consider that you are not ready for your test, I reserve the right to withdraw use my car for the test.

9) Driving test

  • My decision will be final regarding your readiness to take the test and your subsequent use of my car on the test.
  • We will check all lights & bulbs together on the day of the test, but I cannot be held responsible for the unlikely event of a bulb failing (or other mechanical failure) and
    the examiner terminating the test.
  • Three clear working days’ notice of cancellation or postponement is required by the Driving Standards Agency (Saturday now counts as a working day). Failure to
provide the required notice will result in you losing your test fee.
  • I cannot be held responsible for any DSA postponement or cancellation of tests.
  • I might have to change your lesson if another student has a short-notice test booked.

10) Complaints

I hope everything goes smoothly, but if you do have any cause for complaint please speak to me as soon as possible and I will do what I can to resolve your concerns.

11) Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms and conditions will reduce your statutory rights relating to faulty or misdescribed goods or services provided. I have a statutory obligation to provide you with goods and services fit for the purpose for which they were bought and as described. If you have any doubts about your statutory rights please contact your local Trading Standards Department or Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
