Frequently asked questions
What car do you use for lessons?
I use my own car - a new model Vauxhall Corsa ‘Club’, manual gearbox, with dual controls, power-assisted steering and air-conditioning.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons are usually two hours long, but I can be flexible to your needs. Rest assured that you will get at least the full two hours, “door to door”.
How long will it take me to learn to drive?
As a rough average, people usually take between 20 and 40 hours to learn to drive. The following courses are therefore only a guide as to how many hours you might need. They are not a guarantee that you will be ready for your test, as the number of lessons needed will depend upon your motivation and aptitude for driving.
How much do you charge on the day of the test?
Apart from the standard DSA test fee, you will only be charged at normal lesson rates (for a pre-test lesson and for the time of the test itself). Contrary to what some driving schools do, I will not charge you a significantly higher fee for the use of my car on the test.
Do you teach in a vehicle with an automatic gearbox?
Unfortunately I have no plans to offer automatic lessons.
I am nervous about learning to drive. Can you help me?
It is normal for most people to be a little nervous before their first lesson. Everyone informed me that their nerves quickly disappeared during the lesson. Some people are naturally more nervous than others – we will take things steadily at your own pace, and I will always be sitting beside you to give you as much help and encouragement as you need.
Do you cover my area?
Although I am based in Bromley borough, I regularly teach in Shirley, Sidcup, Mottingham and Sevenoaks. I am also very familiar with the Belvedere, Welling and Bexleyheath area. The map below shows the general area I cover, but I am fairly flexible so please enquire if you live elsewhere.
Please contact me if you have any further questions.
